Alright, so the evil powers that be bought the domain name for modrobot.com from under me and Erik and offered to sell it back for a king's ransom. I replied, "How 'bout you kiss my lily-white ass, evil Internet robber-barons?" As you might imagine, no deal was made.

I had a contigency plan set up, however. I had purchased modrobot.net in anticipation of such a catastrophe and viola! I stick it to the man.

EXCEPT ... dealing with the beauracracies of domain file hosts and domain name hosts made this whole business drag on for two months. Finally, Rob.AE and his friend, Frank, were able to determine the issue and cut through all the red tape for me. Muy kudos and mad props to those boys (I feel like a Shadowrun character who rolled nothing but boxcars on his Etiquette: Hackers roll).

So, I'm pleased to present the long-awaited return of
Mod Robot!

Modrobot.com was purchased from under Erik and I by malicious and evil individuals with the intent of selling it back to us for an outrageous some of money.

In response, we've decided to purchase modrobot.net instead. However, there's been a significant amount of downtime due to this conversion.

We hope to have this rectified soon.

New Website for Daphne D. Light Designs

I've nearly finished the new "pop-up free" design for Daphne D. Light Designs. It's part of my new CSS friendly coding campaign. Both myself and the client are extremely happy about it.

I've also added a new node to my online portfolio: Latest Projects which is basically a place to show newly created works and works-in-progress. With my current, hectic schedule, it's a good place to put new things quickly.

This month should see the start of a new web client and the addition to more features on Modrobot, as well as (cross our fingers) a website for my comic.

Alright, alright. Sorry that things are such a mess on Erik's site. I'm currently learning CSS and I'm discovering how buggy it gets from browser to browser -- but I'm close, real close, to getting it sorted out. Except that I've discovered that it's nearly impossible (or at least extremely tricky to code footers in CSS), so I may have to scrap the current design completely and start again from scratch.

[sigh]

In the meantime, try to be patient while things are a'bouncin' around. I'll try to get it fixed ASAP.

OMNICIRCUS ROBOTIC CABARET PRESENTS A GALA BENEFIT FOR THE MAKING
OF A LONG-FORM VIDEO OF NEW ANTI-WAR, ANTI-POVERTY PROTEST SONGS

FRIDAY JULY 23 AT 8 P.M. $20 suggested donation.

Fans of the OmniCircus Heavy-Mental Group will want to attend our benefit auction and performance to raise money to produce a long-form music video. This video will explore themes addressing the war in Iraq and here in the ghetto.
The fundraiser will be held at OmniCircus, located at 550 Natoma St. in San Francisco. Suggested donation is $20 but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

The show starts at 8 p.m., with OmniCircus’ performance ensemble, DeusMachina, showcasing new material.

Videos, computer animation, dance and robotic interactions will also take place.

An additional attraction will be an auction of original art by Frank Garvey and other OmniCircus members, and bidding for a dinner-date with one of the Fallen Angels of the OmniCircus.

Headquartered in San Francisco’s SoMa district, OmniCircus is the premier center for surreal cabaret and multimedia performance.

BENEFIT ART SHOW FOR CAPOBIANCO GALLERY OWNER SLATED FOR SAT., JUNE 19 AT OMNICIRCUS

Abu Ghraib torture photos serve as basis for butoh-inspired dance and music; one-night only gallery show and sale of works relating to prison abuse and anti-war themes to be held

      MONDAY, June 14, 2004, San Francisco, Calif. OmniCircus will host a one-night art show and cabaret to raise money to help with medical expenses of Capobianco gallery owner Lori Haigh on Sat. June 19, at 9 p.m. The fundraiser will be held at the OmniCircus theatre/gallery located at 550 Natoma St. in San Francisco.

          "This is an emergency art show to defend artistic expression," said OmniCircus founder, Frank Garvey. "It is in response to recent threats against Guy Colwell's painting inspired by the Abu Ghraib atrocities; the Capobianco Gallery and the Live Worms Gallery in North Beach; and most alarmingly, the serious physical assaults on the Capobianco Gallery's owner. Our show will spotlight themes related to the Abu Ghraib prison torture." Haigh, whose gallery was attacked by vandals last month and shut down, was punched in the face by an unknown assailant, after receiving numerous hate mails, phone calls and death threats.

          The exhibit starts at 8 p.m., and artists are encouraged to come at 7 p.m. with their work. Garvey’s performance ensemble, DeusMachina, will present a short work about the Abu Ghraib crimes at 9 p.m.

          Paintings, drawings and sculptures from Garvey and local artists including John Sheridan, Elly Simpson, Erik James and Anastasia Meadors and others will be on display.

Well, if you're a frequent viewer of my online portfolio, you may have noticed some changes at the graphic design node. I've revised the color scheme and added a few "new" things - well, they are older in comparision to many of the other designs there - but they are very strong graphics IMHO. In particular is the Secure Data Solutions logo, which I'm extremely proud of - and did in less than 8 hours, much to the joy of the client; who was in a hurry to get a corporate identity. I'll be trying to put some more of my older, "more professional" designs up in the coming weeks as I free them from the ZIP disc prisons I seemed to have trapped them in.

I'm currently still working on developing the identity and look of Marc Canter's People Aggregator and People Net (currently the called the FOAF Project) sites, and those are trucking along (though I've nothing I show you quite yet); more slowly now that I'm looking for a full-time position. I love freelancing, but I hate the periods of not knowing when I'm going to eat next. I'm getting mellow in my "old age" and the idea of steady pay and greater challenges seem pretty exciting right now.

Speaking of challenges, Marc Canter's projects are extremely challenging, considering that I am dividing so much time between them and job hunting. I'm learning a great deal about UI and web-friendly CSS graphics. Luckily, I love a challenge, so I'm enjoying every bit of time I get to spend on this exciting project.

Okay, back to the grind stone. Stay tuned. More to come.

BTW - I'm anticipating Erik getting his computer fixed soon, and, perhaps there will be some posts here from the robotic side of ModRobot!

I'm doing a little research for my current design project - but once I got here, I was hoping I could use Blogspot to upload news directly to my website (you know, so I could stop having to edit code whenever I wanted to update) ... Hmph! It appears that my ftp server doesn't support blogger. So I'll most likely just link to here.
